Most Roof Leaks Start Where the Slope Meets Something Else
Slates and tiles shed water well across an open slope. The trouble comes at the edges and joints: where a roof meets a chimney, a party wall, a dormer cheek or a valley between two slopes. Lead is what closes those gaps. It is soft enough to dress to any shape, and when it is cut, lapped and fixed correctly it moves with the building without splitting.
Older Dublin houses rely on lead more than most. Victorian and Edwardian terraces have lead valleys behind parapets, bay window roofs clad in lead, and step flashings running up every chimney. When that lead has cracked, lifted in the wind or been patched with mastic, water finds the gap long before any slate fails.
We use rolled lead sheet of a weight suited to each position, keep each piece to a length that lets it expand and contract, and fix it into chases cut in the brickwork rather than relying on sealant. Where a valley or flashing has failed we replace it rather than paint over the crack.

What Affects Your Leadwork Quote?
No two roofs in Dublin are quite the same, so we price after seeing yours. Below are the four factors that move the figure on your written quote most for this job.
Length & Type of Lead
A short apron uses far less lead and time than a long valley or a full run of step flashing up a chimney stack.
Access to the Junction
Valleys behind parapets or flashings high on a tall stack need scaffolding, while a low bay window roof is often reached far more easily.
Condition Underneath
If the boarding or valley timbers beneath the lead have rotted, they are replaced before new lead goes down, adding to the work.
Slates or Tiles to Lift
Some jobs need several rows of slates lifted and relaid to reach the lead, and replacing any broken ones adds a little more.
