Find Where the Water Is Coming From First
Peeling paint, a brown ring on the plaster, mould gathering in a corner or a stale smell are the usual clues, but the mark on the wall is rarely where the water gets in. Broadly there are three kinds: penetrating damp, where rain finds a way through the roof, chimney or walls; rising damp, where ground moisture climbs through masonry; and condensation, where moist air inside settles on cold surfaces.
A great deal of damp in Dublin homes starts higher up than people expect. A cracked chimney flaunching, a slipped slate, a failed lead flashing or a gutter overflowing down the brickwork can soak a wall for months. Because we work on roofs, chimneys and roofline every day, we check those first, which often saves you paying for wall treatments that would not have solved anything.
Once the cause is clear, we recommend what fits: repairs to the roof or gutters, a damp proof course where moisture is rising at ground level, tanking for walls below ground, or ventilation changes for condensation. We explain the reasoning plainly, and we tell you straight when walls will need time and monitoring after the work rather than promising the damp is gone overnight.

What Affects Your Damp Proofing Quote?
No two roofs in Dublin are quite the same, so we price after seeing yours. Below are the four factors that move the figure on your written quote most for this job.
Cause of the Damp
A blocked gutter or slipped slate is a smaller job than a new damp proof course or tanking a wall.
Area Affected
The length of wall, number of rooms and amount of plaster to be removed and replaced all affect the work.
Wall Construction
Solid brick, stone, cavity walls and older lime finishes each need different methods and materials.
Access & Making Good
Scaffolding for chimney or roof repairs, and replastering after treatment, are priced in where they apply.
